OCT 15. Working on a new strategy

by HalifaxGuy » Mon Oct 15, 2012 3:45 am
So, my last CAT was a mere 500, I took a week off, and then reorganized my strategy. I now have lots of flash cards that I try to go through as frequently as I can. I started doing kaplan 800, and OG 13. for math, I am timing every single question, I have a grid, and I make a note of every error I make , if its a careless error or concept error, I just did 50 OG 13 PS questions the other day and I think after having gone through kaplan math workbook, I revised all my math, because my math scores in OG 13 werent improving, even though I had revised all my math from kaplan premier, I figured I was missing something, Kaplan math workbook has been very helpful.

For SC, I am now using ManhattanSC, I really like it, I think its helpful, I plan on finishing it this week and working through OG.

Just starting revising RC from kapan 800 and will also read through kapan premier, CR is tricky but I think I have to train my self to think, read and analyze a certain way, I am hopeful that my CR would improve.

I dont think I would be taking another CAT anytime soon. I might take one CAT end of OCtober. I think if one is not improving on CAT, then its important to organize one's study plan, and to revise, review, etc and become better prepared for the next CAT.

Timing every single math question on OG is helpful. Basically What I am trying to do is understand what concept or skill is the question testing, OG is great practice, but the questions wont be repeated but same skills and concepts will be tested. Thats what I have been working on, what is the question testing? rational operations, co-ordinate geometry, what part or aspect of coordinate geometry is being tested, algebra applied problems, what is the test trying to test here? These are the questions I have in my mind, its a little different approach and I think it will help me improve my score.

I might not have time to finish all of OG but I am starting from the last 100 questios for SC, CR, RC, PS and DS. Since the last set of questions are the hardest, I think if I can handle them then I should be good to go!

Good strategy. This kind of careful analysis will be very helpful as you prepare for test day.
Let us know how it works out for you.
