Hi

Does it matter whether A is in left or in right.

In both the cases answer will be same.

I mean to say that first time keep it in left and then try to solve and in 2nd time keep it in right then solve.. u will get same answer both the times.

IMO the answer is E.

Given: Also CD=8; AB=18

Statment1:
C is in between A and B and hence CA=CB=9. Since CD=8 hence D is also in between A and B but we have no information whether its between A and C or B and C. So BD may be 1 or 17.

Statement2:
Since we dont get any information about the placement of D in relevance to C this statement is not sufficient.

Hope this helps :) !

Thank you.
AB = 18, CD = 8, BD = ?

Statement 1 implies that C is exactly midway between A and B, which implies CA = CB = 9.

A -------------C------------- B
A -------------C----------D-- B; here BD = 1
A --D-----------C-------------B; here BD = 17

Since we don't get a definite value for BD, so statement 1 is NOT SUFFICIENT.

Statement 2 does not give any information about the exact positions of A, B, C, and D; NOT SUFFICIENT.

Combining (1) and (2) again we get the same information as from statement 1 alone, so the two statements together are also NOT sufficient.

The correct answer is E.
