New York Museums

by graghukalyan » Sun Aug 16, 2009 1:51 am
Although dozens of New York’s small museums are either devoted to local history or various ethnic groups, there are many one-of-a-kind museums from Manhattan to the Bronx that are open for exploration on summer weekends.
(A) Although dozens of New York’s small museums are either devoted to local history or various ethnic groups, there are
(B) Although dozens of New York’s small museums are devoted to local history or various ethnic groups,
(C) Dozens of New York’s small museums are devoted to local history or various ethnic groups, but there are
(D) Dozens of New York’s small museums are devoted to local history or various ethnic groups, and there are also
(E) Devoted to local history or various ethnic groups, dozens of New York’s small museums and also

OA - D
Pls provide explanations as the answer to me looks not so plausible.

(A) Although dozens of New Yorks small museums are either devoted to local history or various ethnic groups, there are
(here the either or construction is not used in parallel)

(B) Although dozens of New Yorks small museums are devoted to local history or various ethnic groups,
(this choice doesn't complete the sentence)

(C) Dozens of New Yorks small museums are devoted to local history or various ethnic groups, but there are
(initially I chose this choice but later I found that 'but', which is needed to express contrast, shouldn't be used here. Here the second part of the sentence doesn't convey any contrast.)

(D) Dozens of New Yorks small museums are devoted to local history or various ethnic groups, and there are also
(E) Devoted to local history or various ethnic groups, dozens of New Yorks small museums and also
(this choice doesn't make a complete sentence)

OA - D

Can someone elaborate on the incorrect use of the either or construction not being parrallel? How is that any different than the parrallel construction of "or", which is the case in option D.

Basically I dont really understand how A is an incorrect choice.

A seems to be correct as it is.

How?

I don't know how C is wrong and D is right but A is wrong because either ... or ... construction is wrong in it.

It should be,
either devoted to local history or devoted to various ethnic groups

OR

devoted to either local history or various ethnic groups

Could someone please explain why C is wrong?
