My success story !!

by bg2010 » Tue Mar 06, 2012 5:28 am
I wanted to share my incredible experience of applying to Bschool to you all. I know this might sound cliche but if I can do it anybody could do it!

Back in 2006-2007 I accidently stumbled upon a blog written by someone about their MBA mission. It was quite interesting for me to read that since the fancy words like " Consultancy , Marketing etc.." was very appealing to me . But I never thought I would be pursuing the same dream one day ; because I was about to graduate from my Masters in EE from a decent State school and I was about to go to intership within 10 days and to top it of I was about to get married within 4 months.

After Graduating , completing intership and Succesfully became Mrs. :) I casually mentioned the idea of doing MBA to my husband . I could vividly remember It was like a distant dream to me . Meanwhile I got hired into one of the largest semiconductor manufacturing and we both had to move to a different city . I have to mention here that we both are asians and we had to have Visa for working. With my personal life being a mess and my health situation did not help either so I had to throw my dream to backburner. My priority became " To get a Job in the same place where my husband worked ".

While I was doing that the whole bad recession started ; which means It was very difficult to keep our jobs safe let alone find a new one. So I had to wait for three more years before I could change jobs. Now that we had moved to one place and I made sure to resist the pressure of new job and social stress factor of starting a family together. So I planned to write write for GRE/GMAT and start applying for Part time MBA. I did not want to apply for full time since I could not financially or emotionally afford (moving again from my husband) it !!

In the winter of last year we both were blessed with a GC and with one less obstacle on the way I started to apply for PT. Yesterday I got the much anticipated good news from Ross that I was accepted for their PTMBA. For a moment I took a deep breath. Ofcourse there is more to that yet, to arrange for finances, logistics (since I had to drive from Chicago) but for now I am happy that a very normal girl who thought it was impossible withstand the whole process made it to the happy ending.

I would like to thank members of this forum for sharing their inspirational stories, feedback & suggestions. I have always been a silent observer of this forum and I wanted to write only if got into one of the top schools and that dream came true today !! If some has any questions feel free to ping me.

Good Luck to everybody out there who is trying hard to get to their dream school!

As a candidate who is female(I am not trying to be gender biased but based on facts), I would suggest you to research EMBA programs as well. You can usually graduate faster and schools like Wharton, Chicago booth and Kellogs with very high ranking in EMBA would love to have some one with your credentials to be in their class room. Added bonus is you are in the class alternate friday, saturdays while keeping your job.
