MGMAT Verbal scoring

by smkrn » Mon Jun 09, 2008 4:57 am
How well would you all say that the verbal scores on MGMAT CAT's correlate with the actual GMAT verbal scores? It seems that a lot of people get actual GMAT verbal scores that are a bit lower than their MGMAT verbal scores.

So for example, I've gotten a verbal score of 45 on my last four MGMAT CAT's. Is it reasonable to assume that my real GMAT verbal score will be lower than that? What do you think?

Thanks for any input.

hi -

we've noticed overall that the correlation between the two is fairly good; we've had students with mgmat verbal averages higher than, equal to, and lower than their averages on the official test.

i'm not disputing your friends' experiences (or that of whomever else you're using as a basis for your statements about other people's experience), but i will point out the following:
students are MUCH more likely to point out a discrepancy when the official score is lower than when the official score is higher.
this is simple human nature: we're much more likely to complain about things that don't measure up to our standards than we are to gush about things that exceed our standards. (this is the same reason that over 90% of the comments received by corporate feedback hotlines are complaints - not necessarily because the companies' products are subpar, but because dissatisfaction motivates more than does satisfaction).

in any case, rest assured that we have field-tested our cat exams very thoroughly, and that we will continue to do so as the exam continues to evolve.

feel free to post back with further questions. thanks.
