When Bob's Bistro opened in the town of Montrose last year, the proprietors of Andrew's Eatery, the only other restaurant in town, feared that their business would suffer. Surprisingly though, in the past year the average number of meals per day served at Andrew's Eatery has actually increased significantly.

Which of the following, if true, provides the best explanation for this occurrence?

A. The meals at Andrew's Eatery are substantially lower in price than those offered at Bob's Bistro.

B. Bob's Bistro is closed on Sundays, and so for Sunday brunch residents of Montrose would either go to Andrew's Eatery or venture to a neighboring town.

C. The profit per meal is higher, on average, at Bob's Bistro than it is at Andrew's Eatery.

D. Bob's Bistro attracts a large number of patrons that had never dined in Montrose before, and on
many days Bob's Bistro attracts more customers than it can seat.

E. Andrew's Eatery serves considerably more meals on weekends than it does on weekdays, which is not the case at Bob's Bistro.

the paradox we need to explain here is

"in the past year the average number of meals per day served at Andrew's Eatery has actually increased significantly"

we know that Bob's cafe opened up last year ....so what could have Bob's cafe done to increase meals per day at Andrew's cafe .....look at answer choices for answers

A. The meals at Andrew’s Eatery are substantially lower in price than those offered at Bob’s Bistro. Irrelevent -->we are not comparing prices here ....we have to account for the increase in the number of meals at Andrews.

B. Bob’s Bistro is closed on Sundays, and so for Sunday brunch residents of Montrose would either go to Andrew’s Eatery or venture to a neighboring town.the number of residents of Montrose is same ....so this doesn't account for the increase at Andrews

C. The profit per meal is higher, on average, at Bob’s Bistro than it is at Andrew’s Eatery.we arent concerned with profits

D. Bob’s Bistro attracts a large number of patrons that had never dined in Montrose before, and on
many days Bob’s Bistro attracts more customers than it can seat. Correct: This gives us information that there are more customers now because Bob's bistro attracts these new diners some of which go to Andrew's if Bob's is full

E. Andrew’s Eatery serves considerably more meals on weekends than it does on weekdays, which is not the case at Bob’s Bistro. we arent comparing weekends with weekdays

IMO D resolves the issue
the paradox here is that opening of Bob’s Bistro a new restuarant will hamper the business of Andrew’s Eatery, but in past year the average number of meals per day has actually increased significantly ....

prephrasing : some how customers of Andrew’s Eatery has increased

a) price is not an issue
b)stimulus says per day and therefore # of days for bistro is less than andrew's hence nullify the effect
c)PROFIT is not an issue
d) correct as matches our prepahsed ans
e)amount is irrelevant we are concerned abt # of meals
