If there is no conclusion there is no assumption but there can be inferenceranjithvaddella wrote:Can somebody post the difference between inference and assumption with an example?
An assumption bridges the gap between the premise and the conclusion. If u negate an assumption , the conclusion is undermined.
An inference is a must be true

An inference is a conclusion that is reached on the basis of certain facts.ranjithvaddella wrote:Can somebody post the difference between inference and assumption with an example?
CR inference questions will give you a set of facts (only facts - that is one of the characteristics of this Q type), and ask which of the following is a conclusion that can be reached based on these facts.
The question you need to ask yourself is "based on these facts, and on these facts alone, what conclusion can I reach?"
An assumption is not a conclusion - it is a necessary step linking the premises TO a conclusion. Questions asking you to identify the assumption in an argument will include premises And a conclusion, and ask you which of the following is an assumption that was made in the argument. In many cases, the assumption is a necessary step without which you cannot reach the conclusion.

Is "Inference" exactly & always the same as "Conclusion" on gmat CR? Thanks in advance.
Hi,
In theory Inference cannot be equated with Conclusion but it would be ideal to define it as a logical deduction based on certain facts provided to you. There are certain (but rare) times when an argument is given that includes both premises and conclusion and you are asked to draw a conclusion out of it.
Conclusion is part of an argument that is derived our of a set of premises provided.
Hope this clears your confusion.
