Let say amount of fossil fule required to power old technologies is 100 unit. Under the new technology fossil fuel(atleast partly) will be replaced by elictricity and we need less than 100 units of fossil fuel to power the new technology(because electricity required to power new technology can be produced from less than 100 units of fossil fuel). It clearly strengthen the conclusion.

i had tough time eliminating B. Can some one shed light why B is wrong .Is it because amount of fossil fuel used originally would have no impact on the fossil fuel that would have been used in case industries retained their older technologies?

The question specifically refers to the result of the operations of the industry. The machinery is not exactly a result of the operations of this industry. It is the result of the operations of another (machine-producing) industry. Hope that helps.

I misread B. I thought it says less fossil fuel is used in the manufacture of products produced from new technology than used in manufacture of products from older technology..Thanks a lotclickclickdecker wrote:The question specifically refers to the result of the operations of the industry.
