A tip: Avoid because of whenever possible.

Because of X
As a result of X

As a result of X is almost ALWAYS preferred in GMATLAND over Because of X.

Can you please elaborate on this....?

I have seen couple of questions in OG where the correct answer is "because of"...although over there as far as I remember the split is not between "because of" and "as a result of"....can you please point to a problem where the "because of" is preferred over "as a result of" ?

Basically what I have learned till date is:

1. Because of = On account of....

takes this form
because of X, Y
X = noun/noun phrase.
Y = complete sentence.

2. Because X, Y
X, Y = both complete sentences.

3. Between "Resulting in" and "As a result of"....
GMAT prefers "As a result of"...

Please correct if I my understanding is wrong.

The "later generation lost....something" because the library at Alexandria(the largest of the ancient wrold) was distructed.

In A, resulting from the....is modifying later generation. In real sentence there is a cause and effect.

because of the distruction of the largest libraby, the lagest of the ancient world, later generations lost....

we can see this construction in C, but C also contains "the result of" that is redundanct.

Therefore alternative choice is D.

Tough to point out Grammatical Error :( But while reading choices only D looks Ok. Sometimes Guessing is also important in SC.

thank you. this is from OG10. a great question

relation between 2 clauses in a sentence is tested. causal relationship or separate actions.

this is causal relationship. So, D is right and E is wrong.

I think since "at Alexandria" is a prepositional phrase, you're supposed to just go with knowing that the appositive modifies "the library" since that is the main noun and "at Alexandria" is also modifying that noun. Perhaps not the best phrasing, but D is definitely the correct answer.

With regard to the question above: When the appositive follows a noun phrase (the library at Alexandria) the appositive must modify the head noun of the noun phrase (library) so there is no modification error.

I made mistake with this sentence today....
i also feel E is correct answer
as D change the meaning
as from the original sentence
library at Alexandria is not the largest in the world
it is
largest library of the ancient world at Alexandria
(largest of alexandria)

well after we know D is what og says,we can dig many reasons,
but i think that problem with the option D cannot be denied....

If In the option C, we replace - "because of the result of" with just "because of" -
How about C being a correct answer now and can we still mark D as the better answer??
