Hi
I just gave the gmat and got a score of 710, however i got a 4.0 in awa and a 1 is IR!! i wwant to apply to the top schools for a masters and i have a great app ready with me but will those scores reduce my chances of getting accepted greatly? And also i have a friend whos gmat score is 640 and has a GREAATTTTT application but unfortunately yhe exactly same awa and ir score. We both are applying to the same courses to the top schools and are yet to give the toefl..do u think getting a good toefl score cover up for our dismal awa and ir performance? we are reallyy tensed..please help

Hey there,
Well there are good and bad sides to your story. The good side, is that STILL the most important thing int he GMAT is the overall score. A 710 is great! And your overall score counts most.
The bad news is that the IR and AWA tend only to be really important when they are very low. I think a 4.0 AWA is something that most schools can live with, but a 1 on the IR!!! Very tough stuff. (too bad you didn't take the GMAT a year earlier!!!!)
So, the big question is: What to do now???
I think you have two options
1. Apply anyway with your current score and use the optional essay to show that in fact you are great at Integrated Reasoning type stuff
2. Retake the GMAT
I don't think a great TOEFL will help, because the TOEFL is not IR.
And your decision will depend on lots of things I don't know... but let us know your thoughts here...
