government legalize marijuana

by gmataug08 » Fri Dec 19, 2008 5:35 pm
In a national survey of over 25,000 respondents, the majority answered "no" to the question, "Should the government legalize marijuana use for high school students?"

The survey results can be best criticized because the question structure

(A) presented more than one issue to respondents
(B) presented a choice that suggested a negative reply
(C) presented respondents an impossible value judgment
(D) presented an issue to largely unaffected respondents
(E) presented a controversial issue out of context

OA will follow....

My answer is B. Answer to the question which is structured to look for negative response should be negative. And this structure should be avoided in survery questions.
Looking for 780~

Its between B and D
Since the para says about 25000 respondent and not about only high students which are affected by this Survey. But is this really affect the question structureso that option D is valid.
I will go for B

OA......

I may be completely wrong, but I do see two issues: the legalization of marijuana and then allowing high school students access to it. If the issue was the legalization of alcohol to high schoolers, there would only be one issue. But this issue provides two hurdles, and so I choose A.

B - This question is not framed to ensure a negative answer. "Should abortion be legalized" is in the same format. Some people may say no because it's controversial, but the question isn't negative.
C - Out of scope as said
D - We do not know that these people are unaffected. They could be parents or high school students themselves.
E - There is nothing out of context in this statement.

B for me too.

Agree with duke's explanation. The question is framed in such a way that itll attract an obvious answer.

Also legalizing the use of marijuana is one issue - legalizing.
This question is not framed to ensure a negative answer. "Should abortion be legalized" is in the same format. Some people may say no because it's controversial, but the question isn't negative.
How can you compare abortion and using drugs in school!!! Youll find a lot of people who'd support abortion but tell me about any person who'd support the use of drugs in school.

Show me what says "drugs should be used in school." It says marijuana and high school students. I have no idea why you assumed they would use it school...

Where is the OA?

Though I may be wrong about my choice, I'm not trusting your source. This is the second dubious question that you've presented.

I would go with option B as the correct option
