Hi All,

I am 29 years old Indian male applicant targeting Fall 2015 admission
I just took my GMAT on Monday and got a 740 (Q50, V40, AWA5 and IR3).
I had earlier taken TOEFL and scored a 108.

Work Exp
6 years Accenture in SAP Technical(ABAP) - 3 years + 3 years in SAP SCM Functional consulting..
Extracurriculars: nothing worthy of mention
Overseas Work Exp: less than 1 year

Worked extensively with clients in the following Industry Verticals
a. Consumer Goods and Services (Henkel. Kelloggs, Unilever)
b. Heavy Industrial Equipments (John Deere)

For the last 3 years my work is focussed on Sales and Operations Planning which involves the following activities such as
a. Demand Planning
b. Statistical Forecasting
c. Supply Network Planning
d. Safety Stock & Economic Order Qty calculations
e. Supply Network collaboration (vendor Evaluation, Customer & Supplier Collaboration)
f. Spare Parts Planning (Unique Forecasting models used because of sporadic demand patterns in Spare Parts Business)

Undergrad
NIT Rourkela, India (considered second to IITs)
Chemical Engineering (CGPA 7.88/10 - dont know how to convert to 4 point GPA scale)

One of the key features in my work experience which I would like to highlight is the steep learning curve which I faced when I moved in SAP SCM from a pure coding background and how effortlessly I was able to get into the new role (strong analytical & quick learning abilities)

Post MBA Aspirations
Strategy Consulting (mid tier consulting firms like Delloitte, KPMG, Accenture will be fine)
Technology Consulting as I have been doing now (SAP Global Consulting Service)
Operations/Procurement (Amazon.com, Sears, Target, Walmart)

I have selected the following schools to send my official GMAT scores

1. UNC Kenan Flagler School of Business
2. Manchester Business School
3. Eli Broad School of Business Michigan State University
4. Melbourne Business School
5. Indian School of Business, Hyderbad

I am not sure if I made the right choices.
Considering my aspirations and current profile, what do you suggest me to work on - profile building?
I am planning to apply in Early Action Round in UNC Kenan Flagler.
I, like any Indian Applicant would need scholarships, fellowships or any kind of grants that waives a certain proportion of the tuition fees.

How do I improve my profile to boost my chances of getting into a strategy consulting firm post MBA?
Also I would like to what are my chances in the above mentioned B Schools?
I am open to both 1 year and 2 years MBA program.
Any suggestions on which additional schools I should target will be highly appreciated.

Thanks and Regards,
Rohit

Great job on the GMAT score !

You have a good profile, you should target for 1-2 schools in top 3 in round 1; and also 2-3 schools from rank 3-8 in round 1. You should get a call from them, if not apply to other top 10 schools in round 2

My Suggestions: Kelloggs, Booth, Haas

Go for the Reliance Stanford fellowship application, its worth a try!

Your list of schools can include some high ranked schools. 740 on the GMAT is an amazing score. This along with your undergraduate GPA of 7.88, which would be above 3 according to US 4 point scale, makes you a very strong candidate for top 10 business schools. Having 6 years of work experience is good when applying to business schools, but adcoms look at the quality of your work experience. My guess is you must have held some leadership roles in your 6 years of work experience, because business schools look for leadership experience in a candidate. What about your involvement in extracurriculars? You need to sure of your Post MBA goals and the career you want to pursue. Since you are planning for fall 2015 intake, start working on your essays and application. Add a few top 10 schools to your list and apply in R1 to all your target schools. Once you complete your application, try to get it reviewed by alumni of your target schools.

Rohit,

Great job on the GMAT Score. In as much as I could see, you have a decent profile too.

While you may not get scholarships in the top 5 as they are very competitive, they are worth the Fee. You will not be doing an MBA again in life, and an MBA is not about assessing the instant ROI. In the bigger scheme of things, the brand of your school will matter.

A lot of my candidates choose ISB over expensive schools in the US and I fail to understand why. Think about it this way: ISB is a great school. However, your reason for picking ISB should not be driven by the Tuition Fee. It is about the markets/industries/functions/countries you want to be in.

I recently wrote an article on ISB Vs. DUKE and did a point by point comparison to assess the cash flow situation.

I have recently posted it as one of the blogs in a new Thread.

Target North Western, Tuck, Haas, Duke, Darden, Wharton, and Yale. They are way more mature than some of the schools you have listed in your initial post.

Do read my article on ISB Vs. Duke Point by Point comparison. I have a feeling that it will open up a new way of looking at Financial Aid, and scholarships.

Thanks,

Jatin
