we need 2 comparable nouns close to "unlike" , one noun before and one noun after "unlike"
there is a pattern
main clause, noun relative clause
for example
I like her, a thing which all of you know.
I do not see this sentence pattern in general grammar book, even the most comprehensive grammar book. but this pattern is given in OG 10, a question at begining.
A is the answer.

hi - i received a private message asking for a response, but i don't see any specific questions here, other than some confusion between (a) and (e).
here's the deal:
* "monkfish" is a weird word, but it's just like "fish" - it can appear as either singular or plural, with the same spelling.
BUT, when it's used as singular, it needs an article (the monkfish, or a monkfish). so it's plural in this sentence.
* (e) is wrong because the comparison doesn't work.
if your sentence starts off with
unlike catching cod and haddock, ______
then the blank MUST be filled in with some other act of fish-catching; if it's filled in with anything else, then the comparison is nonparallel and therefore wrong.
