am i a prepared for an MBA?

by melissachahin » Fri Jan 16, 2015 2:12 pm
Hi , i'm from Colombia and i'm 24 years old. I worked in a oil services company back in Colombia for 2.5 years. I decided to prepare myself to TOEFL and GMAT so i move to Boston last week and start my plan. As i have been reading tips and informations about GMAT and looking for b-schools i feel like my chances to be accepted are low. Now my work experience have great value to me because i had the opportunity to be in the project management area and did some researched in the oil fields for long periods of time. I have not take the GMAT yet and i'm planing to start the MBA on this fall.

Hope give some advise soon.

Hello there!

Well, first thing is timelines. If you didn't take the GMAT yet, you will be applying not for next year, but for the year after (Sept 2016).

Don't worry about your chances for the moment. Your first concern is to kill that GMAT! While doing well at work, and keeping some volunteer work and extra activities on the side.

Once you beat that GMAT, then we can chat about schools, but there's no need to rush it right now,

Best,
JF

I definitely agree with Jon on killing the GMAT. In addition to the GMAT, what else are you working on? While a majority of your time should be focused on the test, you want to make sure the activities that you're doing at work are helping your career progression. You have a few months to really demonstrate some professional growth as well as get involved in some volunteer/extra curricular activity you're passionate about. You have time to build your case. Best of luck with the GMAT! If you want to chat about developing a plan, feel free to give us a shout here!
