Most businesses in India use computer technology. A leading computer manufacturer with 1 million customers estimates that the only way it can be successful is if it increases its customer base to include one half of all businesses in India that currently use computer technology.

Which of the following logical inferences can be made given the situation above?

(A) The computer manufacturer must sell computers to more than one quarter of all Indian businesses to be successful.

(B) There are over 10 million businesses in India that do not use computer technology.

(C) No more than three quarters of businesses in India currently use computer technology.

(D) There are at least 8 million businesses in India overall.

(E) There are at least 8 million businesses in India that use computer technology.

Karthik

B) No mention of the businesses that do not use computer technology-out of scope/irrelevant
C) No breakup of businesses out of the total busninesses i.e. "use computer + Not use computer"-out of scope/irrelevant
D) No mention of businesses other than the ones that use computer technology-out of scope/irrelevant
E) There is no mention of the exact figure of the businesses that use computer technology-Extreme

A) Seems the correct answer because in order to increase the customer base so that they have more than half of the share they must sell their computers to more than 1/4 of the businesses which means anything above 1/4 i.e 2/4, 3/4 etc

Not sure whats the OA

OA is A

Answer choice A is correct because it is the only inference that is directly supported by the evidence in the prompt. "Most" businesses means more than half of all businesses, or at least one more business than half of all businesses.

So at least one more than half of all businesses in India use computer technology. If a manufacturer needs to make half of these computer technology-using businesses into customers, then the manufacturer needs to sell to half of one more than half of all Indian businesses, or more than one quarter of all Indian businesses. The other answer choices may be true based on the evidence, but answer choice A must be true, based on the evidence.

1/2 * 1/2 = 1/4

(1/2 businesses are Computer tech.
and of which atleast 1/2 business to attain success)
