euro trip word problem

by resilient » Fri Mar 07, 2008 4:44 pm
a bidget airline charges e euros for the first leg of the first round trip from london to ibiza. FOr each additional flight leg and every leg of each subsequent flight, it charges e/3 euros. How much does a london party animal pay in euros for N round trip tickets if all his trips originate in london?

qa is (2e + 2ne)/3

I picked numbers but couldnt get to this. I believe I set up a wrong equation and therefore my plugged in numbers didnt work.
Appetite for 700 and I scraped my plate!

N round-trip flights means 2N segments.

If you assume they were all cheap segments, he paid 2N(e/3).

However, one of the segments was e rather than e/3, so add 2/3 e.

Good luck!
