Didn't beat the GMAT - 620

by fourier » Sat Aug 02, 2008 4:08 pm
Q/V : 40/35 , 620

Very Disappointed as my target was 700+.

Overview of practice tests:

GMATPrep 1: 600 41/31
Powerprep 1: 590 41/31
MGMAT 1: 620 45/31
MGMAT 2: 620 39/35
MGMAT 3: 690 45/39
GMATPrep 1 (2): 660 45/36
GMATPrep 1 (3): 660 47/34
GMATPrep 1 (4): 740 49/42
GMATPrep 1 (5): 740 48/42
Kaplan 1 : 550 35/28
Princeton 1: 650 43/37
GMATPrep 2: 700 44/41 <-------- felt good after this and I decided to schedule the real thing

GMATPrep 2 (2) : 730 47/44
MGMAT 4: 600 39/34
MGMAT 5: 660 47/33
Princeton 2: 670 50/33
Princeton 3: 630 40/37
GMATPrep 2 (3) : 760 50/44

Even though I have a minor in math, it looks like math is my weak spot. I'm constantly running out of time and having to guess on questions in order to keep them under 2 minutes each. THere were a few quant questions areas on the test today that I never was really strong on and should have studied more (overlapping sets).

I felt the verbal was easy and I couldn't remember many questions where I was unsure about the answer. However, based on my score it looks like I missed a lot of questions.

So back to the drawing board, I guess. I'm definitely running out of practice tests and don't want to get to the point where I'm answering everything right simply because I've seen the question before. I need to get the math down pat and learn how to do these questions without much algrebra, arithmetic, etc (ie find the fastest way to do each problem). One last note about the quant: I don't think the GMATFocus helped me much.

Anyone have any other tips for me? I'm guessing with a Q/V split of around 50/35 , I would have had a 700+ ?

Just took the test and got the same score as you, Fourier!

Practice tests were all in the 670-690 range, took the test today and got a 620. Q41 V 35.

Verbal was much tougher than I had anticipated, as I usually get 40+ on them consistently.

I'm motivated now though and know what I need to work on!
