crestfallen after PowerPrep results!

by manish1005 » Wed Jun 25, 2008 4:58 am
hi,

Today i gave a powerprep test (PP2)- the complete test including AWA section. (It was the first test in which I attempted AWA section.) I am highly depressed by the results - I scored merely 630(49Q,27VA). This is my lowest score in last 4 tests which I gave. Is it because of AWA section that literally sucked my brains or its just that i got lucky the other 3times ?

PowerPrep - 630, 49Q,27VA(25/June/2008)

Tests without AWA:
Kaplan online diagnostic test - 680 (22/June/2008)54Q,37VA
Crack Gmat diagnostic - 700 (18/June/2008)
GMAT Prep 1 - 650 (18/May/2008) 49Q,33VA

I started preparing one week after I gave first GMAT Prep, thats exactly one month back. I scored 650 before starting preparation, so i thought that I could very well score 710+ after one month of preparation(I can not further delay the test date due to busy work schedule in the coming month).

I am more worried since i have GMAT in 4days from now. Please suggest what can I do to motivate myself. i am planning to give GMAT prep tommorrow. If results of that test too do not turn out to be good then .. :-(

Hi manish1005,

It sounds like you might need some more practice to build up your endurance and stamina to be able to conquer both the AWA and the quant and verbal. I've been preparing for 6 months and only recently have I begun to feel like I've reached that stamina point. I know you mentioned that your GMAT is in 4 days but if I were you I would seriously think about postponing just to give yourself more time to practice. It might cost you $50 (at least that's postpone fee I saw the last time I went onto MBA.com) but it might be worth it later on.

Hi mlane25269,

50$ fee is applicable if you postpone it before 7days of exam day, for me its just 4 days so no refund!
Is there any other side-effect of giving it again next time, i m not going to get any refund anyway so why not give my best possible shot this time?

I agree. Give it a shot and see what happens. It may just be that you know more than you think you do. And if you don't hit your target score the 1st time around the least you'll get out of it is a good learning experience.

hey all, finally i took gmat yesterday and scored 700(48Q,38VA) Quant was a big disappointment for me. In practice tests i was doing well in quant but yesterday i have no time left for 5-6 questions. I also noticed that in my test there were hardly 14-15 questions of simple quant and others were all data sufficiency ones!!

When i started the preparation a month back 720-730 was my target score but I am content with 700 now. :)
