Repeating decimal

by lolo » Thu Mar 12, 2009 2:57 pm
In the repeating decimal 0.097531097531..., what is the 44th digit to the right of the decimal point ?

0
1
3
7
9

Could somebody please solve this question ?

It should be a basic formula as this is a very common question.

In 0.097531097531, the pattern repeats after 6 digits. So we have 6th digit as 1, 12th digit again as 1, 18th digit as 1..etc etc..and 42th digit as 1.
Then 43rd digit will be 0 and 44th digit will be 9.

Pattern = 6 Digits long

44 / 6 = 7 R 2

Therefore the hundredths digit (because remainder 2) should be the same as the 44th digit.
