Campus Visits

by briangtsmith » Thu Oct 14, 2010 8:44 am
After attending an Emory Goizueta event in NYC, I received an e-mail from the Director of Admissions inviting me to campus for a "Super Saturday" event, stating that I would be able to interview while on campus.

As I am also planning a trip (must be separate due to available tour dates) to Raliegh (Duke and UNC), I was trying to get a hold of what to do.

While Emory has invited me, Duke is a harder program to gain admission to. Should I plan a trip to Raleigh instead? Not sure if I have the money to spend on two trips, considering applications costs, etc.

Does going even help?

Looking forward to any and all wisdom. Thanks!

Visiting campus is a really important part of applying to schools - both to help you decide where you truly want to go, and to demonstrate your interest in the school. Ideally, you would visit both places. I know that it can get expensive, but in the scheme of how much business school costs to attend (!), it's not much in order to help you decide, and in order to help you get admitted.

If that's really impossible, I would make this decision based on how interested you are in attending Emory. It sounds like you have the opportunity to attend a special event on campus, which may give you better insider info and experience than a regular campus visit. Also, if you're serious about the school, then they might expect you to take advantage of the opportunity to interview (unless you truly can't go).

If you're really not sure about going to Emory, then I would focus your time and money on visiting Raleigh and your top choice schools.

Good luck!
