bankruptcy

by kiranlegend » Wed Aug 20, 2008 11:02 am
The media claim that the economy is entering a phase of growth and prosperity. They point to lower unemployment rates and increased productivity. This analysis is false, though. The number of people filing for bankruptcy has increased every month for the last six months, and bankruptcy lawyers report that they are busier than they have been in years.

Which of the following is an assumption on which the argument depends?
Unemployment rates are not useful indicators of growth and prosperity.
Economic growth cannot be measured in terms of productivity.
Legislation has not been recently passed to make legal bankruptcy easier to obtain.
There has not been an increase in the number of bankruptcy lawyers.
The media often misrepresent the current state of economic affairs.

please explain

conclusion : as people filling bankruptcy has increased . the economy is not growing...

Assumption : filling bankruptcy has not been made easy..

Reason for C to be the answer is

If filling bankruptcy is made easy , the increase in number of cases doesn't show economy is not growing... thus conclusion falls apart ..

i think answer is C...
if we negate the answer ..... Legislation has been recently passed to make legal bankruptcy easier to obtain.... that means even people are not bankrupt, for financial benefits they are filing for bankrupsy.. so economy is growing and analysis is correct.(conclusion negated)

In D ... it says that... There has not been an increase in the number of bankruptcy lawyers. and one of the premise is..
bankruptcy lawyers report that they are busier than they have been in years.
so if we assume that there is no increase in number of lawyers but increase in number of bankrupsy cases then the statement is right.... but it is not supporting the conclusion that is .... analysis is false...
so answer is C
