IBM GBS CbD

by run4run » Sat Dec 12, 2009 7:29 pm
Hi everyone,

I just accepted IBM GBS (consulting) as an undergrad. They just unrolled this new program called consulting by degrees which is a 2 year rotational program across industries and practices based in there strategy practice (so no ERP implementations) and a lot of short term assignments. 2 Questions:

1) How would this program be looked at by MBA programs/ (is it enough to go after 2 years for the top 5-10)
2) After 2 years is this something worthwhile on my resume from a different company (either consulting or F500) point of view

Thanks so much for your help

Best,

Run

Hey Run,

Congrats on getting into this program, sounds awesome!

I think that rotational programs would be looked at very favorably to the top MBA programs. I was in a similar program myself out of undergrad at Intuit, and my colleagues who decided to apply to business school afterward were able to attend Harvard, Kellogg, and other great schools.

From a career perspective, you might want to go through the two year program and then spend an extra year at IBM under a single function. It will be better learning for you to be in a single role for a little longer, and I think business schools will appreciate that too.

I'm not sure I understand your second question. But this experience sounds like it would be great on your resume if you're looking ahead to other companies.

All the best!

Eric

run4run, just wondering if you can share your experience regarding the consulting position at IBM. Is it mostly focused on IT? did you enjoy it?

also how was the interview process like, is it a case interview?

submit online

phone screen

final round interview with 3 interviewers and 1 case. :)

It's an exciting new program and I'm going to be in it next year. The pay is same/more than Deloitte's S&O btw, so it's definitely not tech consulting salaries.
