i picked D but its not right. i dont understand why

In the fall of 1985, only 10 percent of the women entering college planned to major in education, while 28 percent chose business, making it the most popular major for women as well as for men.
(A) as well as for men
(B) as well as the men
(C) and men too
(D) and men as well
(E) and also men

making it the most popular major for both women and men as well

With D it will give it a ambigous meaning like only 10 percent of the women entering college planned to major in education, while 28 percent chose business made men which doesnt sound right logically.

as well as for men would convey the meaning that 28 percent choosing business made it the most populat evn among men. This is what the sentence is trying to say in the first place.

Hope this helps!

I have explained the concept in some other post.
But will explain it here too.

In such questions, break the sentence and read it
So, "making it the most popular major for women as well as for men."
should be read as
"making it the most popular major for women"
and
"making it the most popular major for men"

which seems right.
Try putting in other options this way, u'll get the answer.

I am still confused between A and D. Can someone please explain in detail the difference between answer choice A and D? Also, it would help to list why choice D is wrong.

Thanks in advance

for X as well as for Y

Other options miss that for before men . Hence A .

In a word, parallelism. Remember, the GMAT loves parallelism so much they should get married.

(C) and men too
(D) and men as well
(E) and also men

- they all are wrong because they all create redundancy.
and ... too/ and .. as well ./ and .. also

B is wrong because parallelism is missing.

and + as well : used together introduce a new problem of redundancy
