C has an awkward construction
E repetition of that and using ambigous pronoun ' it'
D has a wrong construct ' and rather to come ..' it should be .. 'and instead come .. ' since in the second clause it is comparing what had been feared (worst ) landed out smoothly ...
once you read sentences having words such as 'indicates, confidence, report' --- mean something should follow as an explanation ... and therefore, we should always use .. 'THAT' ... once you spot A and E .. A is better than E.
