According to some analysts, the gains in the stock market reflect growing confidence that the economy will avoid the recession that many had feared earlier in the year and instead come in for a ''soft landing'', followed by a gradual increase in business activity.

A. that the economy will avoid the recession that many had feared earlier in the year and instead come

B. in the economy to avoid recession, what many feared earlier in the year, rather to come

C. in the economy's ability to avoid the recession, something earlier in the year many had feared, and insisted to come

D. in the econmy to avoid the recession many were fearing earlier in the year, and rather to come

E. that the economy will avoid the recession that was feared earlier this year by many, with it instead coming

This is an OG 11 question. OA is A. Can someone please explain why A?

B - 'what' is wrong, which aptly refers to recession - ruled out
C- insisted to come - ruled out
D- and rather, fearing - ruled out
E- lack of parallelism - ruled out

Only A shows parallelism. economy will avoid and come....

B has independant clauses w/o conjunction .. (... to avoid recession, what many feared earlier ... )

C has an awkward construction

E repetition of that and using ambigous pronoun ' it'

D has a wrong construct ' and rather to come ..' it should be .. 'and instead come .. ' since in the second clause it is comparing what had been feared (worst ) landed out smoothly ...

once you read sentences having words such as 'indicates, confidence, report' --- mean something should follow as an explanation ... and therefore, we should always use .. 'THAT' ... once you spot A and E .. A is better than E.
