Although it claims to delve into political issues, television can be superficial such as when each of the three major networks broadcast exactly the same statement from a political candidate.

(A) superficial such as when each of the three major networks
(B) superficial, as can sometimes occur if all of the three major networks
(C) superficial if the three major networks all
(D) superficial whenever each of the three major networks
(E) superficial, as when the three major networks each

correct An. is E

each of... must go with sigular

"three.. broadcast" means " three combined to broadcast, it is wrong

"three broadcast... each" mean" each of them broadcasts but "each" following dose not require singular verb, so is correct.

hope it helps.

Hey, my friend, I am in Vietnam, and do not have gmat book, do you have " sentence correction bible", pls, email it to me.

best regards

IMO "E"...

Although it claims to delve into political issues, television can be superficial such as when each of the three major networks broadcast exactly the same statement from a political candidate.

(A) superficial such as when each of the three major networks
Each.....broadcast...S-V mismatch.
(B) superficial, as can sometimes occur if all of the three major networks
Although X, Y....Here X, Y should be complete clause....which is not the case.

(C) superficial if the three major networks all
Although X, Y....Here X, Y should be complete clause....which is not the case....because of if.

(D) superficial whenever each of the three major networks
Each.....broadcast...S-V mismatch.

(E) superficial, as when the three major networks each
Since subject is Networks....not each....so "each" following subject has no bearing on the verb...as opposed to A, and D where "each" is the subject.

^^^

When each follows the subject, then it has no bearing on the verb.
(source: MGMAT SC) Only when each precedes the subject, the verb should be singular.

IMO when Each is the subject....IMO in the above case....in A and D...each is the subject....

Please correct me if there are any gaps in my understanding.

The answer is E

Why ?

It should be each of the three major networks broadcasts

or

The three major network each broadcast

so A is wrong

In E - as when the three major networks each - is an adverbial clause
as (TV is superficial) when the three major networks each so its correct and E is the answer

The main clause is : TV can be superficial , (How ? ) ( sub. Clause- adverbial -answering how ) as when ...........

C is wrong : the if is unnecessary

TV can be superficial if the three major networks all ......................
If is a conditional and can not be used with 'can"

Flip the sentence - we see the mistake

If the three................................... ,TV can be superficial , can be is incorrect

Are you sure about this ? As far as I remember Manhattan says that

if <present tense> ....then will/can is correct.
if <past tense> ....then would/could is correct.
if <past perfect tense> ....then would/could have is correct.

An example of using can with if is OG-11, Q8....option E....which is the correct answer.

Please correct me if I am misinterpreting you or there are any gaps in my understanding.

IMO C.

A, B - Awkward and wordy.

D - whenever alters and meaning.

It was between C and E, I picked C because 'each' cannot be followed by a plural verb, or can it?

What's the OA?

A out because of 'broadcast'
B awkward
C three TV networks are working independently, changes meaning..
D same issue as in A
E is correct because each is preceded by a plural subject, and whenever that is the case, the verb should be plural...

as when

in E

is a kind of ellipsis

is that right?

E means

Television can be superficial as television can be superficial when the three major networks each...

I find no pattern which can explain the writing of E

please, confirm,
