Advice on admission Post Thu Mar 22, 2012 8:27 am
Hello-

I had submitted my candidature at Smith school of Business- UMD and UIUC - Urbana Champaign as part of my MBA Full-time application for 2012 Fall; but I have been wait-listed at both the schools.

I do not want to delay my MBA for another year and feel as if I am stuck in oblivion.

I would be highly obliged if someone could please throw some light on what next steps should I take.

Looking forward for your kind guidance and advice.

Thanks
FoldedEarth

Hey,
Well a waitlist is not EXACTLY what we wanted to hear but not too bad either! What this means is that the school is hedging their bets, to see who will turn up in the next round. And what this means for you is that you want make sure you show them that YOU are the right choice.
So you have, as far as I know a few main things you can do (you can do some or all)
1. Additional Essay - only do this if you have something to write. Meaning if you got a promotion. If you now have more leads. If you have two or three more amazing achievements. Or another important fact of you and your life you have not yet had the chance to inform the Adcom about. You can also write about things you have neglected to mention because of space. Or clarify points that you feel were unclear.
2. Additional support letter - S quick email or three from Kellogg students or alumni to the Adcom stating their support for your candidacy
3.Additional Recommendation Letter -if you have another recommender from a place where you have not yet given a recommendation, who would give a really excited recommendation we can go for that too. Ideally this would be a recommendation letter that would come from a new perspective
4. Visit and additional interview - This is not always possible, and not always cheap. And it's hard to say how much it helps. But it can't hurt, that's for sure!

Hope this helps!
