A certain type of insect trap uses a scented lure to attract rose beetles into a plastic bag from which it is difficult for them to escape. If several of these traps are installed in a backyard garden, the number of rose beetles in the garden will be greatly reduced. If only one trap is installed, however, the number of rose beetles in the garden will actually increase.
Which one of the following, if true, most helps to resolve the apparent discrepancy?
(A) The scent of a single trap’s lure usually cannot be detected throughout a backyard garden by rose beetles.
(B) Several traps are better able to catch a large number of rose beetles than is one trap alone, since any rose beetles that evade one trap are likely to encounter another trap if there are several traps in the garden.
(C) When there are several traps in a garden, they each capture fewer rose beetles than any single trap would if it were the only trap in the garden.
(D) The presence of any traps in a backyard garden will attract more rose beetles than one trap can catch, but several traps will not attract significantly more rose beetles to a garden than one trap will.
(E) When there is only one trap in the garden, the plastic bag quickly becomes filled to capacity, allowing some rose beetles to escape.

Because the trap is a scented lure and attracted more number of rose beetles but it couldn't trap all the beetles that were attracted - which ultimately led to an increase in the number of beetles in the garden.
I go with D as well.
Stimulus tells us that many traps installed means fewer beetles. Key point is that one mysteriously increases the number of rose beetles. None of the answer choices explain the increase in the number of rose beetles better than D.
Remember with discrepancy questions, you have to find an answer that satifies BOTH sides.

I am going with D as well, because it tells us that the scent from one trap does the same job multiple traps would....so if you are looking to get more beetles out one trap will do the same job several do. The only difference with multiple traps is that they will catch more beetles.....a single trap can only hold so many...

It has 2 be option D.
Reason:
option D: The presence of any traps in a backyard garden will attract more rose beetles than one trap can catch, but several traps will not attract significantly more rose beetles to a garden than one trap will.
in the above-
any traps- means one or more. so even 1 trap is enough to attract more rose beetles.
assume that several traps were there .. option D in the second part of the sentence says it will not be able to lure more rose beetles but certainly can catch more rose beetles than a single trap can.this is supported by the passage.look below to see what the passage says..
Passage says : If several of these traps are installed in a backyard garden, the number of rose beetles in the garden will be greatly reduced .
Ultimately the point is, If several traps where there they will lure the same no of beetles as 1 trap but the no of beetles being caught by several trap will be more. How ever if 1 trap was installed it wil lure more beetles but wil be able to catch fewer than several traps installed.
Option D says that one trap installed is just going 2 increase the no of beetles.
I hope i was not too confusing.
and thats the OA ?

IMO D ....
None of the other options is good enough to replace D.. so by POE D...

Please post the OA.
Original post was on July 6th. Today is July 17th.
Just a suggestion - This is the reason why OA needs to be posted with the question and with the spoiler on so that good questions like this one are answered, and doesn't get lost in the shuffle of unanswered questions. This contributes more to everyone's learning experience.
