680 Gmat, 2 years work ex

by gunner711 » Sun Oct 14, 2012 10:14 pm
Hello Sir,

I have a 680 GMAT (thought I'd get a 50, easily, on the quant, finished it 34 minutes before the allocated time and screwed it up. Over confidence, hence considering of taking it up again).

I think I am already too late to apply this year, so am planning to apply next year.
To what extent will doing a CFA help me with the application?
Thanks in advance.

Regards.

CFA can be a nice "bonus point" for your application but ONLY
a) when it is relevant to your goals
b) when you finish more than the first part... soooo many candidates do the first part and then drop off. If you have all three, then it looks REAL serious!

Hello Sir,

It is relevant to my goals, as I would like to land up with a job in the finance sector.
Plus, I was under the impression that as there are many Indians, from the IT field, it would only make sense if I do at least one level of CFA, which is all I can actually do when it comes to the CFA as I am planning to apply in a year now, so my application looks a little more serious compared to the application of the people around me.

For sure it gives you an advantage, but really not all that much because every else has the same idea as you!!! :) That's why all three levels looks better, cause there's a whoooole lot more dedication behind it. but better yet, is to DO something more than just take a test. Indian candidates are very studious and hard-working and intelligent, and lots of them do great on tests, so it's not gonna be the MAIN differentiating factor for you. But if you were to get a job in finance, or do some finance volunteer work, or something like that... something a lot more ACTIVE or with more leadership, that would be even more effective than another "notch on the belt"
