590 and getting nervous!!

by dubc1982 » Sat Jun 28, 2008 10:48 am
So I just took my first GMAT Prep. Practice Test. I got a 590, which for me is not terrible, but I really need as close to a 630 as possible. I got a 34 in Quant. (18 wrong) and a 38 in Verbal (12 wrong). I think I can do better in Verbal, its usually my strong area as a whole and I think I completely cheesed on a very tough Reading Comp. prompt. So looking at these scores, is this fairly accurate of how I may do on the actual test? I know its been asked many times, but... I also scored a 550 on a Kaplan online test. So, I feel like I'm progressing, but I'm also running out of time and need to beef my score up.

How much would I approximately need to improve my scores to get a 630? Does the GMAT Prep. use the same matrix as the test? Like if I get a 38 on quant and a 40 on verbal, should I hit my mark? Maybe 3-4 more questions right in each section?

I still have a month of studying left, but think I'll only be able to take one more practice test (GMAT Prep. 2). I think I can improve more, but am a little stumped on what to do. I have the OG 11, so I plan on working in that, but beyond practicing questions, I feel like there's something else I can do. Any comments/advice are appreciated.

check out the suggestions in this post.
if you are currently just solving problem after problem after problem, without trying to work the problems into some kind of meaningful mosaic in which they actually relate to each other, then your approach is completely wrongheaded; as one of the other posters on that thread has said, doing well on the test is all about placing problems in the context of other problems.

good luck with your preparation.
