Hello all,

For the past hour Ive been trying to solve the first example and the 3rd one from this link http://www.mba.com/the-gmat/nex-gen/samples/sample-275.aspx?next=yes

Can you guys explain them to me cause I dont get how they came up with those answers. Thanks in advance.

I've doubt about the question. Question says 300 surveyed student, but I can see 11 symbols in first circle. Where am interpreting incorrectly?

Hey Guys,

You both seem to be missing the symbols above the circles. Remember, two overlapping sets require four locations: People in only group 1, People in only group 2, People in both, People in neither. If you count all these, you'll find 30 things.

Question #1: The Symbols up top represent Under 30s with a high school diploma. So all of them would meet the criteria stipulated. Actually, the only place that won't meet the criteria is the overlap between the two circles. Why? Because everything in the left circle (excluding the overlap) is an over 30 with a diploma, and everything in the right circle (excluding the overlap) is an under 30 without a diploma. So the only people we don't count are in the overlap. That's 50 people, or 1/6 of the total. The correct answer is 5/6.

Question #2: This is nice and easy. This is just the symbols up top, of which there are 10, or 1/3 of our total.

Thanks for the answer Tommy actually i just couldnt get where the 5/6 came from but I get it now. I did some silly calculation. I got the second question 1/3 right Smile

Can you please answer also the questions about the Tyrannosaurus rex graph(practice question 3). Cause I don't seem to get the right answer. Thanks in advance
