x and y are integers and x>0, is y>0?

1) 7x-2y>0
2) -y<x

I FAILED this question soooooo miserably. :(

IMO E

Stmt 1 -
7x-2y>0

=> 7x>2y
=>y<7x/2
plug a value : say x=2, since x>0
=>y<7
=>y can be either positive or negative
Hence Insufficient

Stmt 2 -
-y<x
=> y > -x
Plug values : x = 2, since x>0
=>y > -2
=>y can be either positive or negative
Hence Insufficient

Stmt 1 and Stmt 2 -
7x/2 > y > -x

Plug values : x = 2, since x>0
=>7 > y > -2
=>y can be either positive or negative
Hence Insufficient

Note: The reason I took x=2 as the only VIC is because, all we care is to prove that the stmts are insufficient.Had the value x=2 satisfied any of these two stmts, then we should try with different values for 'x' to figure out the solution.

in 1
7x>2y
3.5x>y

can be either neg or pos

in 2
0<x+y

again y<x but positive or negative

if combine both then
intersect can be neg or positive. Example y=1 or -1 and x=100
