1. x + y < 20 doesn't help much. Pick examples using a negative and a positive y respectively:
y = -5 and x = 23 ---- x + y = 17 < 20, but x is greater than 20.
y = 3 and x = 16 ----- x + y = 19 < 20, but this time x is smaller than 20.
2. is irrelevant, since we don't know if there is any link between x and y.
Put them all together and still nothing: in my examples above, y is smaller than 20. Use the same examples to prove that both statements taken together are no good.
