Given: W: M: C = 5: 2: 7
Assume the W = 5x, M = 2x and C = 7x
Required: Total people in the room?
Statement 1: W + C = 12
Hence 5x + 7x = 12
x = 1
Therefore W = 5, M = 2 and C = 7
Total = 14
SUFFICIENT
Statement 2: M < 4
Since we have people here, they cannot be represented in decimals.
We know that M = 2x and M < 4
Therefore M can only be 2
and x = 1
Total people = 5 + 2 + 7 = 14
SUFFICIENT
Correct Option: D
