Target question: What is the retail price of a certain calculator?

Statement 1: The retail price of the calculator is $2.00 more than the wholesale price.
There are several scenarios that satisfy statement 1. Here are two:
Case a: the wholesale price is $1, and the retail price is $3. This satisfies the condition in statement 1. In this case, the retail price is $3
Case b: the wholesale price is $2, and the retail price is $4. This also satisfies the condition in statement 1. In this case, the retail price is $4
Since we cannot answer the target question with certainty, statement 1 is NOT SUFFICIENT

Statement 2: The retail price of the calculator is 50 percent more than the $4.00 wholesale price
50% of $4.00 is $2.00
So, the retail price of the calculator = $4.00 + $2.00 = $6.00
Since we can answer the target question with certainty, statement 2 is SUFFICIENT

Answer: B
