AWA - Issue - In any enterprise

"In any enterprise the process of making or doing something is ultimately more important than the final product"

The global world in which we are living, we daily encounter numerous products of various companies , some of the products appeal to us while others are under our scrutiny because of its quailty. Todays consumer in a liberated and free economy expect a high quality product and at a reasonable price. Enterpises are competing against each other to capture the imagination of the consumer mind. In this race to win the consumers some enterprises compromise on the quailty and the process of making the product. In the above statement , the author claims that the process of making or doing something is ultimately more important than the final product. Though the final product is of importance but process of making or doing something is ultimately more important that the final product.Primary reason that process of making or doing something is ultimately more important than the final product is that even if we have a product , which is of low quality or of unreasoanbly high price then the consumer wont purchase the product. Ultimately it will be a loss to the enterprise. The need for processes is very important in todays world when so many companies are competing for the same space. Processes may sound combursome or boring but the effect of the same is far fetching. For example Toyota is known for its high quality cars and is considered as a world leader in the same category. If we look into the history of Toyota we will find that the Japanse car maker had one thing which distinguishes it from the other car manufacturers is its processes. Toyota processes are considered as world class and is copied by other car manufacturers. Because of its smooth processes and well laid down processes it could manufacture cars at a much reasonable price and at a very high speed. Implementing of processes may take some time but once correctly implemented it speed up the entire chain of processes.Another reason for process of making or doing something is more important is because in todays world most of the enterprises are rated on the basis of not only its products but on the processe as well. To get new businesses the potential customers seek not only the final product but the quality of processes that are followed in the organization. In IT industry CMMi level certification is a sign of a company coming of age. CMMi is the benchmark certification for the organization in quality and processes. Organizations use this certification to ensure its customers that they not only meet the customers demand but they do the same in more effecient and cost effective way.It must be noted though that the author does not claim the final product to be of less importance. Final product is extremely important for an organization but process of making or doing something wins over the final product if we have to make a decision on their importance. In sum we can say that process of making or doing something is ultimately more important than the final product. If an enterprise wants to become a true leader in its category then it should invest in processes and give processes its due importance. Processes will help the enterprise in long run to be cost competitive, quality competitive and thus the enterprise can be a winner. Therefore for an organization process of making or doing something is ultimately more important than the final product.
