"Last summer saw 500% increase in tourism at a seaside resort, and the national economic situation is even more favorable this year. The summer's tourist boom will surely generate record renenues which will resolve oue area's economic difficulties."
The argument that boom in national economic condition will promote tourist boom in the area where seaside resort is located and eventually resolve the economic difficulties in that area does not appear to be fully substantiated by the information provided by the author. In my opinion, the author omits some important concerns that must be addressed to substantiate the argument. The following essay aims to identify these concerns.
Firstly the author wrongly assumes that with more favorable economic condition consumers would be lured in spending their summer holidays in the area where resort is located. It is possible that consumer have better holiday option such as holiday abroad which would eventually mean that the turnout of the tourists in the area will be low. Also the fact that there was 500% increase in tourism last summer would mean that many of the tourist have already visited that area and may not like to visit that area again.
Secondly the author is trying to correlate national economic situation with a boom in tourism in an incorrect manner. It is quite possible that the boom in tourism in the area last year was due to heavy concessions given by the tourism industry but not particularly due to national economic boom alone. Therefore it is wrong to conclude that boom in economic situation would bring boom in tourism this year also.
Finally author concludes that summer's tourist boom will surely generate record revenues which will resolve the economic difficulties in the area. The economic difficulties in the area can be due to variety of reasons such as decrease in productivity, unemployment, lack of funds, natural disasters etc. Therefore concluding that boom in tourism alone can lead to resolving economic difficulties would be incorrect.
On the whole it can be said that the argument made by author is very weak and it needs to be substantiated by providing evidence of impact of national economic boom on tourism in that area. Author can also present evidence that correlates boom in tourism with improvement in economic condition in the area.
