by 800guy » Tue Sep 05, 2006 7:46 pm
A person buys a share for $ 50 and sells it for $ 52 after a year. What is the total profit made by him from the share?
(I) A company pays annual dividend
(II) The rate of dividend is 25%
(A) Statement (I) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (II) alone is not sufficient
(B) Statement (II) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (I) is not sufficient
(C) BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement alone is sufficient
(D) Each statement ALONE is sufficient
(E) Statements (I) and (II) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient

Hi

My choice will be E
Statement 1 not sufficient.
Statement 2 also not sufficient as dividend paid on face value of share which is unknown.
Combining 1 and 2 does not provide us with more info.
hence my choice is E

I say C

Statement 1 tells you the dividend is annually

Statement 2 tells you the rate of the dividend

Soln:
Considering question stem and stmnt 1:
It tells nothing but that dividend is paid annually. Insufficient

Considering question stem and stmnt 2:
It tells that rate of dividend calculation is 25% and does not give any other information. Insufficient

Considering question stem and stmnt 1 & 2:
We get the information that dividend is calculated annually at the rate of 25%, but we have no information on face value of the share, because $50 given in the question stem could also be the market vaue for initial purchase. Insufficient.

Hence E
