Say x = 100; thus, y = 100 + 80% of 100 = 100 + 80 = 80BTGmoderatorDC wrote:If y is 80% greater than x, than x is what % less than y?

Thus, x (= 100) is 80 less than y (= 180).
Required percent = (80/180)*100% = 44 4/9%
The correct answer: D
Hope this helps!

We can let y = 1.8x; thus:BTGmoderatorDC wrote:If y is 80% greater than x, than x is what % less than y?

(x - 1.8x)/1.8x * 100 = -0.8x/1.8x * 100 = -8/18 * 100 = -44 4/9 = 44 4/9 percent less
Alternate Solution:
If we let x = 10, then y is 1.8x = 18. Thus, x is 8 less than y. As a percent less than measure, we see that x is 8/18 x 100% = 44 4/9% less than y.
