We use the formula for percent increase: (new - old)/old x 100. The percent increase in profit from 1982 to 1983 was:
(4.8 - 3.6)/3.6 x 100
1.2/3.6 x 100
12/36 x 100 = 1/3 x 100 = 33 1/3%
