OG 11 SC Practise qn 85, QN 41

Dear All,

OG 11 SC Practise qn 85, OG 11 qn 41
I am a bit confused regarding the Singular and Plural form of Cost\Costs.
Initially, when I attempted the forementioned questions,I directly opted for the sentence having "Cost" as Plural. After going thru the expln in OG,I was a bit confused about the exception this solution had created.
In qn 85 , The Dirt Roads take the plural form "Cost" in the sentence which I felt was correcy? However,Can somebody elaborate more why "Costs" is correct (instead of costs) in the qn 41 below?OG 11 says that costs is Plural here !!!!!

Thnx,Regards,

No dear it's the other way round....costs is singular while cost is plural...lets take a couple of examples

The dogs run out of the house
The dog runs out of the house

The cooks bake delicious cakes
The cook bakes delicious cakes

The soldiers drink milk every morning
The soldier drinks milk every morning

Just relate it to common usage examples and that will make things clearer...Hope this helps!!

I think I should take the above example as an exception where the singular form "Costs" is used to satisfy the statement "are prohibitive" ??
OG explanations are a bit confusing as they tend to generalize it.whts yr view?
