The two triangles are similar since they have the same angles. Consequently, each pair of corresponding sides is in the same proportion: 39:3 = (18+x):x.
Rearranging this proportion yields
39x = 3(18+x)
39x = 3*18 + 3x
36x = 54
x = 1.5
