We have to get the value of xy.lheiannie07 wrote:What is the product of X and Y?

(1) 2X + 2Y = 46.
=> x + y = 23
Cannot find the unique value of xy as the values of x and y are not known.
(2) (X + Y)^2 = (X - Y)^2 + 8
=> x^2 + y^2 + 2xy = x^2 + y^2 - 2xy + 8
= 4xy = 8 => xy = 2. Sufficient.
The correct answer: B
Hope this helps!
