Statement 1:
A line with a negative slope MUST pass through quadrants II and IV.

Since line k has a negative slope, it must pass through quadrant II.
SUFFICIENT.

Statement 2:

The blue version of line K passes through quadrant II, while the red version does not.
INSUFFICIENT.

The correct answer is A.

Here are two similar DS questions involving lines in the coordinate plane:

CONCEPT:

1) Every line with the Negative slope always passes through Quadrants II and IV

2) Every line with the Positive slope always passes through Quadrants I and III

3) Parallel Lines have EQUAL SLOPES [m1 = m2]

4) Perpendicular lines have product of their slopes as -1 [i.e. m1 x m2 = -1]

Keeping in mind the above concept
Statement 1) Negative slope therefore SUFFICIENT
Statement 2) Y-intercept alone has nothing to do with slope of the line therefore INSUFFICIENT

Answer: Option A
