by sgaurang » Wed Aug 20, 2008 10:48 pm
Hi,

I am non native english speaker.

I am Good at quantitative but when it comes to english I am end up.
In GRE my score was good in Maths but in English very poor. For TOEFL my scroe was also very low.

I had prepared my mind with "Nothing is Impossible".

And I want to crack GMAT with good score for both the section.

Can anyone suggest me from where do I start with and which is the efficient material for nascent english preperator?

First things first - Get yourself comfortable with basic grammar rules. Don't go very deep into grammar. Just the basics. You can google for the same.

Simultaneously, read a lot of American news and science magazines. Almost all of them have free articles on their websites. Read at least one hour a day and after reading try to summarize the main points in your own words. This will hep you improve your reading comprehension as well. Look up the dictionary for words you do not immediately understand. And understand how same words may give different meanings in different contexts.

Start with this and you will see the difference in few weeks.

Verbal requires lot of hard work. It will take some time but gradually you will improve.

Use this forum. Ask questions.

As you yourself said "NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE". Go for it !

Look into this https://www.beatthegmat.com/resources.html#gmat_verbal. These people have some awesome resources.

The best resources, in my opinion, for the verbal section on GMAT are listed below.

1) Download the GMATPrep software (free download from mba.com)
2) Buy the Official Guides 11th edition (Orange and Purple book)
3) Buy the Manhattan GMAT SC guide for Sentence Correction (Its Awesome) . You get 6 tests free if you buy the book.
4) Buy the Powerscore Critical Reasoning Bible.
5) Buy the ARCO book for GMAT and LSAT reading comprehension (not sure of the name).
