On several forums, I've read that my age is a huge disadvantage and I should only try Part-time MBA programs.
I am an engineer in the silicon valley with 9 years of work experience.
GMAT - 740
Age - 31 now. 31 years 10 months (2 months short of 32) at matriculation
Under Grad GPA - 2.8 from top 10 engineering
Gender - Female
Nationality - India
Work Exp - Engineer for 9 years
Applying this year for Fall 2013.
What US schools can I try for?
In Europe, what schools go for older applicants?
Thanks for the help immensely.
Can I try FT MBA at my age? Almost 32 at matriculation?

31 is not too old. Yes, it's older than average, but well within range. You can go for any program which you see fit. And you have an awesome GMAT, so you will be off to a better start than most!

Thanks a lot for your response. I would like to get into Business/Corporate Strategy in tech companies or Equity research post MBA. Can you help me pick schools. GIve that my experience is all engineering in tech and I am on the older side, which of the two is a better option post-MBA?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Well Monika,
The important thing when coming up with your goals is that they make sense in terms of what you are doing now. So, although it's true that an MBA is an opportunity to change, if you can show good continuity between your past and your goals it will always be better. So your idea of moving into management in Tech makes total sense. What schools can you go for? Well, the first place to start is schools with strengths in your industry - Haas, Anderson, Tepper, McCombs, etc. But of course it doesn't mean a good, solid MBA from a General Management program at Duke, Ross, Tuck and the like can't be great even if their specialization is not tech.
Hope this helps!

Thanks once again Jon. Another quick follow up question. I understand that General management in tech makes sense given my engineering background in tech. However, is Corporate Strategy in tech companies something I can pursue as well given my experience. I am not too keen on general management. Strategy interests me more but I am not sure if that is a realistic goal considering all of my experience is in tech engineering.
Thanks,
Monika
Thanks,
Monika

Monika,
I think it's realistic as long as you would stay in the industry in which you have experience. If you were gonna tell me strategy in the food and beverage sector, I'd say no, but staying it tech, you should have no problem building a logical story.
