That article on GMAT math vs school math is fantastic! I find myself preaching that in class a lot: the GMAT is going to be your (and your, I mean the typical student's) first introduction to real math, which is about not knowing what to do, but being willing to try something and see where it leads, and probably learn something new and exciting en route.

Breaking that mindset of "is that a rule? which other rules should I memorize?" is one of the first real keys to success in your GMAT studies, I think. School math was all about contrived exercises meant to illustrate some of the cardinal formulas of math, but GMAT math is what math is really like.

I wholeheartedly agree. My first introduction to MATH (vs. ARITHMETIC) was in university (while getting a degree in math, a subject I thought had a handle on).
