OG GUide quantitative (Green book)Data Sufficiency: question #113

In the fraction x/y, where, x and y both positive integers, what is value of Y.

1.) least common denominator of x/y and 1/3 is 6.

2.) x=1.

question # 114. Data Sufficiency

IS 1/a-b < b-a?

1.)a<b

2.) y>2

both tough for me and i think I am making the questions harder than they are!

113. In the fraction x/y, where, x and y both positive integers, what is value of Y.
1.) least common denominator of x/y and 1/3 is 6.

Y can have two values 2 and 6 for which least common denominator can be 6. e.g. (7/6 and 1/3) & (7/2 and 1/3)

NOT SUFFICIENT.

2.) x=1.

This doesn't give any value for Y.

NOT SUFFICIENT.

(1) & (2) together:
Y can have two values 2 and 6 for which least common denominator can be 6.

e.g. (1/6 and 1/3) & (1/2 and 1/3)

NOT SUFFICIENT.

Answer E.

114. Is 1/a-b < b-a?

1.)a < b

(b-a) will be positive.
(a-b) will be negative.

This follows that b-a(+ve) will be greater than 1/(a-b) {-ve}

SUFFICIENT.

2.) y>2

Equation uses variable y, which is not used in the equation, NOT SUFFICIENT.

I guess it should be either a > 2 or b > 2.
