B : statement 2 is sufficient
1 - insufficient.
Take y=1, x=2. |1| > |2| - |1| - not true.
Take y=-1, x=2. |3| > |2| - |1| - true.

2 - sufficient. If xy < 0, then either x is +ve and y is -ve (OR)
x is -ve and y is +ve. Either way |x-y| will be greater than |x| - |y|
i.e. sum > difference.
