GMAT 640, Non-Business Background

by jatuhkeatas » Thu Aug 24, 2017 2:01 am
Hi!

I'm wondering if you could evaluate my profile.

27 year-old male from Indonesia,
GPA 3.23
GMAT 640 Q44 (52%) V34 (71%)
(my first score was 570, the second was cancelled, the third and fourth are 640)

Work Experience:
- 5 years of experience as a lawyer, a mid-associate in one of the top law firms in the country. I have only worked in my current firm and have never worked in another firm or company and never had an internship. I was seconded in one of our clients' office for 1.5 months last year.

I usually work directly with my Partners with one or two junior associates and/or trainees. Although, there are several projects where I work in a larger team, comprised of more juniors/trainees and senior associates.

I was once appointed as the head of contingent of my firm in the Indonesian lawyers' sports competition where I lead a team to facilitate the employees that will participate in the competition (including myself).

Education:
- graduated from one of the top law schools in the country.
- represented my school (together with two teammates) and won the national round of a moot-court (court proceedings simulation) competition. I was the top 5 speakers. Our team was defeated in the preliminary of the international round.
- appointed as the person in charge of film-making in the law faculty's film/photography/journalism club, a position made specifically for me by the club president to improve the quality of the club's film.

Other:
- coached moot-court teams from 2012-2016
- passed the Indonesian Bar Exam
- a certified rescue diver, level 2 certified tap dancer, was addicted to game programming when I was still in junior high school.
- finance a charity for children's education and was a speaker in an inspiration class for elementary school children. Other than those, I don't really have any volunteering/social activities.

I intend to apply to Rotterdam (RSM), ESADE, INSEAD and Kellogg.
1. Do you think that it is realistic for me to apply to those schools?
2. Do you have any suggestion of any other good business schools that may better fit my profile?
3. Do you have any suggestion in relation to my recommendation letter or resume?

I really thank you in advance for your evaluation.

Hey dude!
Great to hear from you! You should know we love working with Indonesians and even have a resident "Indonesia expert" working with us :) Yaron Dahan, aka the professor, who just wrote up a piece about Indonesia https://admissionado.com/mba/indonesian- ... ed-trends/. You may want to check that out for background info.

So first off, business schools LOVE lawyers. Because you have these really unique skills and knowledge sets that business people lack, but really really need. So that is good. Your GMAT, as you know is quite on the low side. I think it's good enough for RSM and ESADE (btw, Yaron helped some Indonesian clients of our to get into both those schools), INSEAD might work, as they aren't too crazy tough on the GMAT, and Kellogg is likely a long-shot.

But really the best is for you to drop us a line and speak with Yaron and he can tell you more about the schools you can and should apply to: https://admissionado.com/free-consultati ... n=mba_blog
