Hi Everyone,

Someone dropped me an email asking me to justify the need for an MBA Consultant and the
value blah blah blah. He even forwarded me a couple of google searches from FT with
related articles, and I realized that it is common for a lot of applicants to not understand the
value an MBA Consultant can bring to the applications.

Who needs an MBA consultant? - ANYONE and EVERYONE who is applying to a business
school. PERIOD.

What is an MBA Consultant? - YOUR COACH.
Do you need a COACH?

Think about it this way- Do you know more than what you knew 15 years ago? YES. If you
could go back in time with the learning curve and information you have now, will you be able
to make significant improvements in your life? Yes- 100% - If you disagree with this, I know
you are not looking deeper because this statement is 100% applicable to you, me, Barrack
Obama, and every living soul on this planet.
Accountability of a COACH- A Coach is accountable for making you expand the circle of
your thought process, your capabilities, and making you take the measures necessary to win
the game.

Characteristics of a Coach/MBA Consultant
1. An MBA consultant does not sit inside your body/mind and is completely free of your
own internal fears or reservations about you. A lot of your concerns regarding your
profile, weaknesses, and failures bother you, but they do not bother your MBA
consultant or coach as he is not Psychologically stuck in that. Most of your fears are
irrational, and the whole idea of having a coach is to get access to the objectivity
needed to up your game.

2. Will you grow as a person in the next 15 years? 100%. Now, do you want to
experience those 15 years yourself before applying your learnings in the MBA
Game? Or do you want to get a coach, and have him make you see what you can't
see?

Michael Jordan, Sachin Tendulkar, US Presidents - all of them had coaches ( Look it up).
Imagine that you are an engineer trying to create an impactful resume to be read by an admissions
committee member of your target program. That admissions committee member has not worked in
your organization, does not know the importance of various KRA's and accomplishments in
your company, and industry, and is assessing you only on the basis of what you project. Do
you know it is quite common for you to construct a document that will not be well understood
by someone who is not from your Background. You need to bounce off your
accomplishments with someone who is fully committed to making you see whether your
presentation on that document is creating the desired impact. You may value certain
irrelevant skills as you have been wired that way because of your work experience. Imagine

the dilemma of the adcom member who has to assess resume of people coming from
McKinsey, Facebook, Suzuki, Steel Authority of India, Infosys, Unknown-Unheard of
company, and other Tier 2 Not- so popular companies.
Imagine writing the goals essays: Some of you know what you are looking for right after
MBA, and some of you are really clueless and are just looking to jump out of the existing
professional life in the hope of greener pastures. Whether you like this or not, they are going
to ask you in both your essays and your applications- Do you know what do you specifically
want from an MBA? What will you be doing in the 4 to 5 year term post MBA? What do you
plan on doing 7 to 15 years after MBA? Whatever you want to do, why do you need an MBA
for that?
You need a second mind to churn your brains and really understand the organic reasons for
the MBA. A coach will be able to challenge you, question you, and will continue to take you
on the path of discovery so that you do not submit things that are taken for granted.
There are numerous situational essays such as leadership, failure, and it is hard for a first
time applicant to really assess whether he is focusing on the right markers of the story.
There are times applicants pick great stories but the angles are so complicated that
ANYONE outside the life of an applicant cannot really value that independent story. An
independent story essentially means that your reader will not have the opportunity to call
you, speak with you for 5 minutes, and seek clarifications on certain edges.
For your brain, you are the first applicant, and your brain will continue to circle in its own
learning curve, and will make its own discoveries. For a coach, you are not the first
applicant. Go and seek help.

The exorbitant pricing of admission consultant is a big dampener for middle-class Indian students. Can you please suggest an economical and good MBA consultant.
